Life After Clinical Death
Wow, the first comic. This one was inspired by lunchtime conversation about someone’s uncle pronounced dead from a heart attack but later recovered. One of my religious coworkers (a great guy) jokingly said the recovery was because ‘Jesus tapped him on the shoulder’.
In my frustration to that naive assessment, I began to research news stories about people recovering after being pronounced dead. The state these people are in is called clinical death and it’s a common occurance. No heart beat, no pulse, no signs of life–but still alive. People are actually put into this condition on purpose for complex surgeries such as for a brain aneurysm.
In researching, I also came across a cool human ability that’s called the mammalian diving reflex; which is likely a reason for this ‘miraculous’ recovery.
