Prosperity Omelet
When I wrote these first comics I was reading Joel Osteen‘s popular book Your Best Life Now. Osteen is the tamest televangelist yet. He’s sparse on Bible quotes and dodgy on taking hard theological stands. As a result he is the most popular preacher in the United States. His “You can do it!” message appeals to almost everyone.
However, Osteen is really no different from the other televangelist charlatan

Honestly, for a second there I was sure you were going to say: “if you just believe that the omlette tastes good it will … and from then on you’re life will be filled with sweet nectar from heaven”. This of course isn’t the prosperity gospel but it’s trailer-trash cousin “the power of positive thinking”. At least Osteen et al have the sense to know that a magic man might be required to convert water into wine. ;P
