Thank god, Sully Sullenberger didn’t pray

When people say it was a miracle I get furious because they don’t give credit to an excellent pilot. Conditions were as good as they could hope for (with the obvious exception of the geese being there) and the captain made a great deadstick landing on the river. The airplane stayed afloat for some time (as the engineers who designed it know it would) and being in a fairly busy area people were able to get out there and get the passengers off.

People seem to have a bizarre inclination to dismiss an accident with 100% fatality rate as “just an accident” but if any or all victims survive “it’s a miracle!”

Yeah. The same goes for medical survivals. Enough credit is not given to the doctors and nurses, usually because their work is very complex and difficult to understand.

So instead of trying to appreciate their skills and expertise people look in the “other” direction and claim the supernatural.

Just more “God of the gaps”.
