Actually, the ‘real’ christmas holiday, that which is celebrated in the US, could very well be left alone as it is 99+% secular. Trees, decorations, presents, sales, sales, and more sales. Buy for christmas, bolster the economy! There’s very little “Christ” in christmas because almost no one really wants it there. And perhaps the secular giving that goes on during this holiday is more beneficial to human happiness than the religious crap that accompanies it.
Lame? What’s lame about “Shortest day of the year, build a big fire and drink as much as you can!” At least, that’s what I’d do if I was on the planning committee.
